Calvin O. Qualset is Professor Emeritus and Director Emeritus of the Genetic Resources Conservation Program at the University of California–Davis, USA. He taught courses in genetics, genetic resources conservation, plant breeding, agronomy, and experimental design and analysis and mentored more than 75 graduate students and post-doctorals. His team developed and released 20 varieties of wheat, oat, and triticale. He has collected landrace wheats in Turkey and Dasypyrum villosum, a wild wheat relative, in several countries. He has been Principal Investigator on several multi-institutional projects on wheat genomics and in situ conservation of milpa crops in Mexico. He and a small U.S. team developed research and demonstration center in Lithuania and pioneered introduction of a new crop for Lithuanian agriculture. He and his collaborators have authored more than 300 peer-reviewed papers and reports. He has served on editorial boards of several journals and led reviews of more than 15 international centers and programs.
